you know that kid-in-a-candy-store kind of excitement? the kind that makes you squirm in your shoes, makes you jump up & down, maybe even scream & shout? the kind that makes you completely oblivious that you might be embarrassing yourself a tad? that is how we feel when we are photographing weddings like this. truly, we squirm and shout and get excited with every single wedding we are privileged enough to photograph. but of course, there are certain styles that we feel mesh with us like there’s no tomorrow! let us preface this by elaborating on why these weddings make us tick: our style is very organic. we love wine and everything vineyard-related. we love gnarly trees and overgrown fields. perfection is great and all, but life isn’t perfect. we embrace those natural imperfections and love quirky inspiration-driven diy touches in weddings, and in life. butch may not follow these wedding blogs, but i feel like we identify best with the wedding chicks and green wedding shoes. {brides-to-be, if this is resonating with you and you haven’t drooled over these websites yet, brace yourself… you’re in for a real treat!!} personality-infused weddings are truly all about taking an unpolished, raw space and create the environment you want for your reception. traditions are being created, concepts are being molded & reinvented like play-doh, and we think everyone appreciates and enjoys creativity and branding within one’s wedding day! simply put, we like brides and grooms who make their wedding day their own!

what is there not to love about patterns and a modern twist on the traditional grooms tux/suit? lovelovelove this b+g’s vintage feel:

ceremony programs: several couples have had fun with working diy papers and textures into their programs! not only are these visually interesting to the guest, they photograph so well!

signage. branding. personality. this groom was an avid biker, and the ride that was accented by this wedding sign was part of his collection!

bridal party photos: all we need is a fun location – textured wall, weathered barn, overgrown field, grungy bridge, you name it! after getting a few more classic bridal party shots, we like to play and have fun like with this group below.

our favorite time of the day to photograph b+g’s is during the evening when the light is low and “golden” – we are always so excited when couples let us steal them away for a few romantic portraits after dinner! the below was captured just before sunset <3

wow! is it just us or did summer fly by faster than ever before?? it’s september already, and we are still trying to figure out where july went! with a bit of sadness and much excitement, we are looking forward to fall. what is fall to you? in the world of butch and kelsy, fall means apple picking {bring on the honeycrisps!} + enjoying leaves blowing in the wind + football sundays + watercolor trees in every direction + dark denim + our 1 year wedding anniversary {it’s coming up quick! september 19th!} + that crisp, cool air that puts an automatic bounce in your step + hooded sweatshirts and cozy sweaters + weddings where we don’t sweat our butts off + pumpkin carving + CANDY CORN!! {one of the highlights of my year, every year!} + malbecs & cabs + each of our week-long birthday celebrations {we’re 12 days apart… and a few years} + flannels {don’t be surprised if you see butch rocking a new flannel every day of the week!} + one of the best parts of fall… sleeping with the windows open!! on all of those positive notes {with the exception of butch’s excessive flannel attire…hah!} we’d like to leave you with a festive fall image of none other than the two of us being goofballs ;) happy fall, everyone!!

you know time is really flying when you see your clients’ families grow and have the honor of documenting these significant marks in their lives. we photographed jennifer + matthew’s wedding last summer and it seems like just yesterday we captured cullen as a newborn. except, it wasn’t just yesterday. it was 6 months ago!! he has grown into such a handsome little man and we are so excited about all of the expression we were able to pull out of him {with much help from mom and dad, of course} :)

april and chris were married this february and we were so excited when they contacted us for a {just married} session!! i mean, how adorable are they?! we had fun wiggling around downtown wausau with them last night and really couldn’t have asked for more perfect weather or more gorgeous light!

meghan {class of 2011} wausau senior photographer

yesterday morning we had an incredible senior session with meghan! she is part of marathon high school’s class of 2011 and she brought all of her personality along to share with our cameras :) before any of us knew it, her 2 hour session had turned into nearly three hours and we wouldn’t have had it any other way! meghan incorporated her interest in volleyball and gave us a real surprise in the end when she told us she was up for taking a dip in their family friend’s pond… coolest thing ever! thanks for a fun session, meghan!

lora + keith | green bay wedding photographer

we had the honor of photographing one of butch’s good friend’s weddings a few weeks ago and to say that it took wedding photography to a new level might just be an understatement. lora and keith are like two opposite sides of a coin. lora has one of the biggest personalities we’ve ever met! no one else we know is like her, and that is exactly why we love her so much! she breaks the ice, she has the best laugh in the world, and she can find humor in absolutely everything! going into this day, we knew we were about to have wayyyyy too much fun taking pictures of her and keith all day long! keith is one of the nicest, most mellow guys you’ll ever meet. him and lora balance each other out and after four+ years of dating, everyone knew it was about time they tied the knot. we met up with the ladies at the salon and found that they were done earlier than planned. after wondering what we should do for the next 45 minutes {since we couldn’t get in to the church due to a funeral being held!} we made our way to a nearby park where the ladies enjoyed a few beverages, and we were on our merry way shortly after a few good laughs. i should mention, on the way to the park lora so kindly rode in the truck with us to make sure we wouldn’t get lost. this is the very first time i rode on a bride’s lap getting from point a to point b! the rest of the day went smoothly with many emotions flowing leading up to the ceremony. lora was absolutely glowing, and the glances her + keith shared during their moments on the altar were adorable! after the ceremony, all pressure was off and it was time for fun, as we’re completely sure you will see in these pictures!

wausau races for the cure

this saturday wausau held its first annual susan g komen race for the cure and WOW was it ever a success!! initially they were hoping for 1,000 race participants and i think we were all blown away by the 2,200+ that showed up to share their support. having participated in various cancer walks for the past six years, when we were asked to come down and photograph the event there was less than a moment of hesitation. we had a gorgeous morning and everywhere you looked you saw survivors hugging friends and family, lots of team spirit, and our 400 block covered in pink!

can we just say that we love our clients??? and it’s not just because they go right along with all of our silly ideas… or because they deal with the two of us making fun of each other… well, that might be part of it, but the truth is that we absolutely love when we walk away from a wedding day or portrait session and say to ourselves “geez, that went by fast! what a fun day!!” this happens quite often with us, and it is exactly how we felt after lyndsay and justin’s door county wedding the last weekend in july. their bridal party was an absolute riot, and together we created some beautiful images! this little thank you message from lyndsay after seeing her complete gallery of images was like icing on a really big, very delicious cake :)

THESE PHOTOS ARE ABSOLUTLEY INCREDIBLE!!! Words can not explain how happy I am with ALL of the photos. The day went so fast and it was hard to remember all the details, but after looking at these, how can I not remember!? WOW, thank you so very much. So excited!!
